Netball: Champagne is kept on ice for Arfon as Panthers strike

Pwllheli Panthers pulled off a superb win against the leaders last Wednesday

Needing a win to clinch the Division One title, the champagne was kept on ice for Arfon Ladies last Wednesday when they lost 24-21 to nearest challengers Pwllheli Panthers.

The Hogan Gwynedd and Mon Summer Netball League Division One champions will now be crowned this Wednesday when the final round of matches take place.

Arfon remain favouite to claim another title with a three-point lead over Panthers, the only team which can overhaul them.

Pwllheli Panthers 24-21 Arfon Ladies
(3-5; 9-12; 18-15; 24-21)

A cracking game saw Panthers overcome a half-time deficit to claim the win which denied Arfon the title last Wednesday.

The Llyn side trailed 3-5 after the first and 9-12 at the midway point, but crucially took the third quarter 9-3. The closer ended 6-6, so Pwll edged the honours.

Tîm o Walis 29-25 Bethesda
(5-7; 16-14; 21-20; 29-25)

A really good close encounter between the bottom two sides saw Walis just pull ahead in the final quarter to clinch victory.

Heading into the last session, Bethesda trailed by just one goal, but Walls bossed the all-important last 9-5.

Dyffryn Ladies 23-30 Holyhead
(6-5; 12-15; 19-22; 23-30)

This game was closer than the final score suggests.

Holyhead were just three in front before they took control to win the final segment 8-4.

Dolgellau 25-30 Walis Bryncoch
(7-4; 9-13; 17-20; 25-30)

After losing the opener Bryncoch really got the bit between their teeth, winning the second 9-2 and the fourth 10-8 to seal a fine victory.

Menai Mavericks 17-28 Fflamau Brynrefs
(4-8; 7-16; 12-25; 17-28)

Fflamau were on fire in the first three quarters as they established a 13-goal lead over the Mavericks.

Although Menai won the last 5-3, the deficit was far too much to make up.
