WELSH CRICKET CUP NORTH ZONE 2 (QUARTER-FINAL)

Colwyn Bay (19.3) 104-10
Mochdre (20) 153-5

It’s official – Mochdre Cricket Club are the real deal this season!

Hot on the heels of winning their first five matches in the North Wales League Premier Division, tonight the Swan Road team knocked holders Colwyn Bay out of the Welsh Cup!

With two attempts to play this North Zone 2 quarter-final tie proving unsuccessful due to rain, the rescheduled match was to be a T20 affair at Penrhyn Avenue.

The first game on May 26 at Mochdre was abandoned with the home side having scored 212-6 off 40 overs. A second bash at playing the tie was wiped out by the weather.

However, it was a case of third time lucky tonight at Rhos-on-Sea (Thursday, June 6).

Mochdre won the toss, elected to bat, and amassed 153-5 off their 20.

Captain Joe Chaplin hit 59 not out off 33 balls and slammed five sixes, while Alex Davies posted 52 off 42 deliveries, cracking eight fours.

Ryan Holtby claimed 2-42 for the hosts, who were then bowled out for 104 with three balls of their innings remaining.

Will Evans top-scored with 49 against his old club, while Marcus Mangiameli collected 3-15, Matty Humphreys 3-25 and Chaplin completed a magnificent match with 2-16.
