It was a night of huge celebration for Llanberis as they lifted their first major trophy since winning the Welsh Alliance League Alves Cup back in 2000-01.
On that occasion 23 years ago, during a golden period for the Darans where they had not long won back-to-back Cookson Cups, Prestatyn Town were the team they defeated in the Alves final.
Fast forward to 2024, and it was the challenge of Glantraeth which was overcome by Carwyn Jones’ side in the Cwpan Snowdonia final at Maes Eilian, Llanfairpwll.
Anglesey outfit Glan took a 14th minute lead through Tomos Hughes, but Ifan Mansoor’s 19th goal of the season from a Peter Mansoor assist with 25 on the clock made it one-apiece at the break.
Cheered on by a large army of fans, Llanberis took the lead on 59 minutes through Peter Mansoor’s 11th goal of the campaign, Dion Owen with the assist.
Goal number eight of 2023-24 from substitute Gethin Maxwell made it 3-1 on 64 minutes, long-serving club icon Nidian Huws performing the assisting duties.
And that was enough to win the cup for the Darans, who in the past month had lost 4-0 at Glan in the league, but beaten them 3-0 at home.
There will be few more popular cup winners in North Wales football this season – llongyfarchiadau i Llanberis!
