Amlwch Town cancel tonight’s game following police investigation into alleged assault

Tonight’s North Wales Coast West Premier Division match between Amlwch Town and Trearddur Bay has been postponed.

It is believed the cancellation relates to a police investigation into an alleged assault at Saturday’s game between Amlwch Town and Penrhyndeudraeth.

Amlwch requested the postponement of tonight’s game, which has been granted.

The club said: “Given that there are further investigations pending, it would not be appropriate for us to comment at this time.”

Announcing the cancellation, Trearddur Bay FC, who would have been crowned champions tonight if they won the game, said on X: “Unfortunately we have been notified that Amlwch have cancelled tonight’s game.

“We understand their current situation as a club but feel the call could have been made earlier in the day as we have players that have left work etc to make the game.”

A video of the alleged weekend assault on a club linesman representing Penrhyndeudraeth, has been widely circulated on social media.

North Wales Police have confirmed they were called to the Lon Bach football ground in Amlwch on Saturday and are still investigating.

FAW chief executive officer Noel Mooney said on X-Twitter that he is aware of the incident.

He posted: “Yes we are aware of the incident – as are police. There is no room in football for this.”

Meanwhile, the North Wales Coast Association published the following message on Facebook this afternoon: “The North Wales Coast Football Association (NWCFA) are aware of a video circulating on social media in relation to an incident at Amlwch Town FC.  This incident is currently being investigated by the police, which the NWCFA has requested details.

“Whilst this is an ongoing investigation, we would urge people not to share the video or comment as this could impact any investigation.

“The incident will be investigated accordingly at the conclusion of the police investigation.”
