A season which has already all but clinched them fourth place in the Cymru North became even more impressive for Mold when they won the northern final of the Welsh Blood Service League Cup at Central Park, Denbigh, on Saturday.
More than 600 spectators witnessed the Alex take control just past the hour and end Llandudno’s dream of silverware in a campaign when they fought back admirably from deep waters to preserve their Tier 2 status.
Mold had narrowly won both league meetings between the sides this term and the first half of the cup final was another close encounter.
While Alex hit the crossbar and had an effort cleared off the line, Tudno’s Danny Holland forced a fine stop from keeper Alex Swindell.
The deadlock was eventually broken on 61 minutes when Alex Smith put the Alyn Park men in front.
Five minutes later it was 2-0 when Jake Roberts found the net with an absolute stunner.
And the job was complete when sub Eric Durnell notched number three for the blues on 88 minutes.
Llandudno deserved at least some reward for their contribution to the final and it came when Ethan Roberts pulled a goal back two minutes into stoppage time.
Winners Mold will now take on Briton Ferry Llansawel in the national final at Newtown on April 20.
