Suddenly, there is another team representing Holywell who are making a name for themselves!
Everyone involved in Welsh football knows about the highly successful Holywell Town, but newly-formed Holywell United are improving fast and looking to rise up the pyramid.
One notable absentee from our Club of the Month feature for February was Holywell United.
We published the article on Tuesday, honouring Coedpoeth United for their outstanding month at first and reserve team level, but we were also aware Holywell United had one game to come on Wednesday the 28th.
And what a result that game produced! Holywell United only went and beat second-place Gronant 3-2, inflicting just a second league defeat of the season on Sandy Malone’s side.
Goals from captain Douglas McDonagh, Kieran Durkin and Luis Rowlands banked the win which lifted United up to sixth in the table. They had previously lost 9-3 at Gronant back in July.
During February, Holywell United, now in their second season, took 13 points out of a possible 15 – awesome.
Feb 3: Overton Recreation (h) 2-0
Fevb 10: Skippy (h) 1-0
Feb 17: Bellevue (a) 9-1
Feb 24: Brymbo (h) 0-0
Feb 28: CPD Gronant (h) 3-2
Well done Holywell United – February’s true unsung heroes!
