NORTH WALES COAST EAST LEAGUE REPORTS

Premier Division

CPD Bro Cernyw 0 Penmaenmawr Phoenix 6

Six of the best from Penmaenmawr ensured they boosted their lead at the Premier pinnacle to four points.

Saturday’s league game at Cae Ysgol, Llangernyw, saw Phoenix take on a Bro Cernyw side sitting one off the bottom.

Cernyw began on the front foot with Cai Price and Robin Hughes lively up front, but Pen’s defence were up for the battle and dealt well with the danger.

Both teams struggled to get the ball down and play football with the pitch conditions, but Pen’s Darren Evans and Ian Pattinson soon began to get a grip on the midfield.

Evans was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when he appeared to be fouled inside the box, but strong play saw him stay on his feet and narrowly miss the target with a shot.

Pen broke the deadlock in the the 31st minute when Pattinson played a delightful ball over the defence to find Daniel Williams, who had timed his run to perfection and his cross found was finished off by the on-form Jamie Jones at the back post.

Some good goalkeeping from Bro’s Joseph Edwards ensured it stayed 1-0 up to half time.

At the interval Ricky Jones, returning from injury, entered the play to replace Darren Evans, who had picked up a knock.

The second half started with Cernyw attempting to get the ball down and play football but the Phoenix press was again causing problems

Mezz Knight doubled the away lead in the 57th minute when the centre forward pounced on a back-pass, rounded the keeper and scored into an empty net for his sixth goal of the season.

After Bro’s Robin Hughes found himself in the sin bin for dissent, Phoenix looked to make the extra man count for 10 minutes.

Daniel Williams bagged himself a quick double to put his team 4-0 up, his first from the penalty spot and the second a powerful finish after good play from Lee Stokes.

Daniel Hughes made an instant impact from the bench, the full back finding himself on the end of a pass from Stokes and smashing the ball into the corner of the net.

The Phoenix put the game to bed in minute 90+1, Ricky Jones providing a great through ball for Daniel Williams to complete a hat-trick.

Man of the Match for Pen was Michael Williams.

CPD Cerrigydrudion 2 NFA 2

After a goalless first half, Cerrig went two-up with goals on 49 and 63 from Delwyn Jones and Iorwerth Jones respectively, but NFA fought back to draw through Matthew Robinson and Antonio Jacovelli after 72 and 76 minutes.

A thumping win for Meliden over a Llandyrnog outfit which ended up with nine men after two red cards.

The hosts took control in the second half, Kai Wallis, Jack Harrison (2), sub Connor Beattie and captain Luca Querci (penalty) putting them out of sight.

Rose saw red for the visitors on 86.

Mochdre Sports 1 Kinmel Bay 0
