Three goals in five second-half minutes clinch NFA victory which lifts them off basement

GENERO ADRAN NORTH – JANUARY 28

CPDM Bangor 0
NFA 4 (J Mills 9, A Mills 70 & 74, Scott 75)

The return of Ashleigh Mills to the NFA line-up for just the second time this season made a big difference as her two goals helped the Rhyl side romp to a four-goal success at Nantporth.

The score might be somewhat misleading as Bangor had a host of chances in the game, but whereas they could not finish, the visitors were devastating when their opportunities came.

One of North Wales’ outstanding players, former Rhyl FC player Mills, 25, has an amazing engine and possesses a deadly left foot.

Military service has restricted her appearances in Welsh football in recent years, but when she is on call with her boots, the results are usually significant, as was the case today,

Bangor made a fine start, a ball in from the right evading everyone in the six-yard box and finding Ella Jones at the back post, but she rattled the crossbar.

Despite facing early pressure, it was NFA, bottom of the table before start of play, who took a ninth-minute lead.

A Jade Scott corner from the right was headed home at the front post by top-scorer Jess Mills, younger sister of Ashleigh.

Bangor continued to have the majority of the chances, Menna Evans going close twice, but they could not find the net.

At 1-0, NFA’s ever-consistent goalkeeper Katie Spruce produced a super save and was indeed outstanding throughout the game.

NFA were much stronger in the second half and Ashleigh Mills doubled their lead on 70 minutes.

Scott made it 3-0 direct from a corner, then Ashleigh Mills added a fourth with a superb long-distance strike. Three visiting goals in five minutes had completely killed the game as a contest.

Bangor manager Aron Griffith could not hide his disappointment after the match, saying: “Very disappointing score for us, I think NFA made the most of the wind in the second half, but take nothing away from them as they wanted it from the first minute.

“We created a bagful of chances but just couldn’t slot them in, I think we were second to everything and could have played better as a team, but the passing and working the space was there, just a shame about the result.

“We need to pick ourselves up quickly now as we have Felinheli on Wednesday night.”
