Reports: Ardal North East & West – Cefn Albion triumph again, eight for Llangollen, Pwllheli win

Cefn Albion have announced a change of venue for this weekend’s crucial home top of the table clash with leaders Penrhyncoch.

The vital game will take place at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium, home of Airbus UK Broughton, on Saturday, January 27, with a 2 pm kick-off.

Albion sit third in Ardal North East, eight points behind Penrhyncoch but with three games in hand.

Therefore Saturday’s tussle is a huge encounter in the title race.

Sean Jones’ side maintained their perfect start to 2024 with a 3-0 victory over Llansantffraid Village at Clwyedog Park at the weekend.

Having started the new year with a 5-0 triumph at Welshpool Town and then a 4-0 thrashing of Llansanffraid on January 12, the Cefners were aiming for a quick double over Saints.

This they achieved thanks to goals from Leighton Kendrick, Josh Astley and a stunning 30-yard match clincher from Jordan Williams.

The goals flowed for Llangollen against the bottom side at Tower Fields on Saturday.

It was 2-0 at half time, Josh Pilgrim and William Cooke on the mark.

After the break the floodgates opened, Jack Hanley making it three before Callum Roberts added a fourth just before the hour.

Sub James Samuels found the net, Cooke pocketed his second, then Jake Hayward, who came on close to the hour, put the icing on the cake with goals on 83 and 87.

Hawarden Rangers 2 CPD Pwllheli 4

Pwllheli made it three league wins on the bounce as they followed up impressive victories over Holyhead Hotspur and leaders CPD Y Rhyl 1879 by taking the honours at Gladstone Playing Fields,

After a goalless first half, Rhys Hewitt broke the deadlock for the hosts on 64 minutes.

Josua Lloyd Jones equalised on 74 and made it 3-1 after 82, Steffan Toplis also on target for the visitors in between.

Iwan Jones pulled one back for Hawarden to set up a tense finish, but man in form Ashley Ainsworth plundered a crucial fourth for Pwll eight minutes into stoppage time.

Dean Bryan’s goal in the half-hour from a Will Nevitt handed Llay the lead at the Dragon Steel Stadium.

The Bordermen were behind but far from beaten and they levelled via a magnificent George Davies free kick with 50 on the clock.

That was the end of the scoring, but home keeper Niall Collings, just 18, produced a stunning late save to ensure the Welly didn’t snatch it.
