JD CYMRU NORTH – NOVEMBER 17

PRESTATYN TOWN 0
DENBIGH TOWN 3 (Worrall 10 & 40; Kershaw 12)

Match report: Ollie Williams

A fourth league win on the bounce for Denbigh keeps them firmly entrenched in the Cymru North top five.

Matthew Worrall opened the scoring in the 10th minute when he picked the ball up outside the box and turned before hammering one at goal. Keeper Michael Jones got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out.

Less than two minutes later the lead was doubled when the returning Ryan Kershaw – absent for seven weeks – danced through everyone before rounding the goalkeeper and slotting home a superb effort.

Despite two early goals it was a game of few chances.

Just ahead of the break Josh Lock nicked the ball in midfield and ran through on goal. His effort was saved before Worrall’s follow-up was lobbed into the back of the net for a third.

Things went from bad to worse for the home side when Dan Atkins was sent off for a foul in midfield on Sion Jones, seconds after the resumption of play.

Half-Time: Prestatyn Town 0-3 Denbigh Town

In the second half, Denbigh pressed for a fourth. Worrall searched for his hat-trick with a free-kick that looked destined for the top corner only for Jones to palm it over.

Youngster Owen Herbert was introduced and he linked up well with Reserves team-mate Rhys Lloyd with the 16 and 17-year olds displaying mature and assured performances, showing why they’ve earned their opportunity with Town.

The referee blew for full-time with Denbigh unable to add a fourth but will take heart from not only three points but their first clean sheet since the beginning of September.

Denbigh now take a break from league action with a trip to Flint in the WBS League Cup next Saturday.
