Disaster in the Natty for North Wales clubs

It was a disastrous week for North Wales clubs in the Nathaniel MG Cup quarter-finals.

Gresford Athletic crashed to a heavy 9-0 defeat at Cymru Premier champions The New Saints on Tuesday, while the following evening saw Prestatyn Town beaten on penalties at Guilsfield after a 1-1 draw.

Guils reached the last four for the first time as they overcame fellow JD Cymru North side Prestatyn on spot-kicks.

Kurtis Pearson opened the scoring for the Seasiders after just three minutes when he fired home a superb first time strike from the edge of the box, but Adam Knott provided the equaliser for Guilsfield in the 71st minute.

In the shootout, Prestatyn failed to score any of their first three penalties – with Robbie Williams saving two of them – and Guilsfield netted all three of theirs to progress.

Gresford were totally outgunned by a TNS side which is proving untouchable in the top-flight this term.

The 9-0 demolition job at Park Hall was the joint-second biggest margin of victory in the history of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Defender Ash Baker netted a hat-trick on his second start of the season following a return from injury.

Teenage striker Gwion Dafydd was also handed a start by Craig Harrison and he netted twice.

Luke Brennan, Dan Williams and Josh Pask also got on the scoresheet, while Adrian Cieslewicz came off the bench to get in on the act as TNS reached the semi-finals for the first time in five years.

Swansea City booked their spot in the semi-finals with an emphatic 6-0 victory against 10-man Briton Ferry Llansawel at Old Road on Monday night.

Kian Jenkins gave the Swans an early lead with a low driven shot, but the Reds were still in the game until the 21st minute when Morgan Hutin was sent off for a reckless challenge.

The wildcards capitalised on their man advantage and were 3-0 up by half-time as Ruben Davies fired home and Jenkins grabbed his second of the night.

The Swans were comfortable with the lead but did not add to it until the final 15 minutes. Davies completed his brace by finishing from close range, before Kristian Fletcher netted a double of his own with two quick-fire goals.
