Shortened 15-match season for Cymru North – Nathaniel MG Cup starts this month

Champions Prestatyn Town have been given a bye into the second round of the Nathaniel MG Cup

The Cymru North league will play a shortened 15-match season due to start in 2021, it was announced today.

And the Football Association of Wales has revealed the 2020/21 edition of the Nathaniel MG Cup will kick off this month.

The first round of competition is due to take place on the second weekend of December.

Following confirmation of the JD Cymru North and South being designated ‘elite status’ by Sport Wales last week, the National League Board met yesterday to determine the format of all relevant competitions for the season.

The first round will comprise 26 Tier 2 Men’s clubs, 13 clubs respectively from both the JD Cymru North and South based on the 2019/20 season rankings, joined by the two wildcard entries in the first round.

Consequently, Carmarthen Town, Swansea University and Briton Ferry Llansawel from the JD Cymru South and Airbus UK Broughton, Prestatyn Town and Guilsfield from the JD Cymru North will receive byes into round two alongside the remaining JD Cymru Premier clubs.

The draw for the first round will be broadcast tomorrow evening (2 December) with the games scheduled to be played on the weekend of 11/12 December.

The National League Board confirmed that both leagues would play a shortened 15-match season scheduled to start in 2021.

Each club will play each other once, with the clubs scheduled to play eight home matches to be determined by a random draw.

In line with the FAW Pyramid Regulations, promotion and relegation will take place as normal.

The start date for the leagues will be confirmed in due course.
