Veterans Cup – wins for Rhydymwyn, FC Queen’s Park, Nomads, Ruthin and White Bear

NORTH EAST WALES FOOTBALL LEAGUE VETERANS CUP REPORTS – SEPTEMBER 23-24

Mynydd Isa 1 Rhydymwyn 5

Four goals in the last 12 minutes put the icing on the cake of a tremendous Rhydymwyn performance.

Anthony Wearden netted the only goal in the first half of this Vets League Cup tie, putting the visitors one-up after six minutes.

Michael Murray levelled for Isa on 76, but then Rhyd turned up the heat, Karl Bacon putting them back in front after 78.

Gavin Hughes then added a double and Daniel Jones a single to wrap up a 5-1 triumph.

Connah’s Quay Nomads 9 Brickfield Rangers 2

Saturday’s only tie saw the Nomads rattle up nine at home to Brickfield.

Lee Cousins led the charge with a four-minute hat-trick, scoring on 45, 48 and 49 minutes.

Michael Ryan and Sam Dooley delivered a double apiece for the hosts, while Kevin Smart and Paul Whittaker bagged one each.

Darren Greenway scored both for Rangers, bringing them level at 2-2 in the first half before Nomads ran away with it after the turnaround.

FC Queen’s Park 9 Buckley Town 1

The Park’s first-team joint-manager Tony Jones was in deadly form for the Vets, scoring four times in their demolition of Buckley.

Jones struck on 30, 45, 48 and 70 minutes, while there was a goal each for Jason Edwards, Alex Huxley, Darren Jones, Stephen Rees and Dave Evans.

Colin Cunningham pocketed a consolation for Bucks.

Ruthin Town 5 Deeside Dragons 1

Gari Evans, Sam Roberts, Simon Pike, Warren Aykroyd-Duckett and Matthew Lowe all made the scoresheet as Ruthin advanced at the Dragons’ expense.

Carl Wilson’s 37th minute penalty was Deeside’s only contribution to the scoreboard.

White Bear 2 Mochdre Sports 2 (White Bear won 5-4 on penalties)

The only close tie of the weekend saw White Bear edge out Mochdre on spot-kicks.

Ryan Davies’ pair on 37 and 44 minutes put the hosts two-up at half time, but Christopher Lloyd and Anthony Priestley hit back after 50 and 82 to force a shoot-out.

White Bear came out on top 5-4 and squeezed through to the next stage.
