Jonathan Phillips notched his first century in seven seasons and recorded the second highest score of his career as Chirk seconds hauled themselves off the bottom of Division Eight with a magnificent win over Quayside at Holyhead Road.
Former first-team skipper Phillips struck 109 out of Chirk seconds’ 218-5 off 40 overs, amassed after they were put into bat.
Dale Randall scored 30, Connor Dyke 30 not out and Phillips’ opening partner Chris Hughes 25.
And Phillips was far from finished as he then collected 4-8 with the ball as Quayside were skittled out for just 70.
Hughes scooped 3-7 and there was a wicket apiece for George Collins, Dyke and Randall.
Chirk’s remote promotion hopes all but disappeared as they lost disappointingly at bottom side Bridgnorth seconds.
The hosts had only previously won once all season, but they had what was needed to edge past their North Wales visitors by 16 runs.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Chirk posted 180-8 off 34 overs.
Wynn Jones made 57, Liam Walker 32, Mark Shaw 30 and Oliver Gough 20, Lewis Hurdley taking 4-24 for the hosts.
Bridgnorth were set a new target of 196 and got there for the loss of just two wickets off 32.2 overs. Alex Yarnley starred with 72 not out.
