A stunning first-half goal from Dave Maddock was enough to secure Junction a third consecutive win on their travels, this time at the expense of previously undefeated Mochdre.
A tough, highly-competitive derby with a few tasty challenges from both sides was settled by a moment of class from recently signed striker Maddock.
Junction hit the bar before following a right-wing throw-in, Maddock turned on the edge of the box, and found the net with a superb left-foot volley.
Despite numerous attempts and a period of sustained pressure, the final ball just wouldn’t fall for Sports.
The home side’s best chance came when Scott Brown burst through the middle and found himself one-on-one with keeper Aaron Hoyle, only for the ball to take a wicked bobble just as he shot.
The game had everything you would expect from a local derby – cards, battles and physicality from the outset.
The sides were very well matched and in the first 20 the lead could have gone either way.
In the second half Railwaymen defenders Kieran Edwards and Ste O’Neill held their own tremendously, not letting Mochdre have a single shot on target.
Special mention to Junction’s Harri Jones, who does not stop working and always gives his 100% best., plus midfield marauder Mike Williams.
Take nothing away from Mochdre, they have most definitely improved from last season and Kai Davies had a fantastic game causing all sorts of trouble for the opposition.
