SHROPSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE REPORTS – AUGUST 19

DIVISION ONE

Chirk (3) 145-10 Newtown (20) 150-4

Disappointing day for Chirk as they slumped to a six-wicket defeat against their visitors from Powys.

Put into bat, the North Wales side were bowled out for a modest 145 off 43.5 overs.

No-one was able to build a major innings for the home team. Opener Oliver Gough made 31, Nick Flack 29 and Simon Rickett 20 not out.

Jonathon Davies scooped 3-34 for the away side.

In reply, Newtown reached a winning 150-4 in 41.4, Namibian J C Balt 53 not out and John Anthony 48 their best contributors.

Flack bowled well for Chirk, notching 2-22 off nine.

The result leaves Chirk 1st XI fifth in Division One with four rounds of matches remaining.

DIVISION EIGHT

Quayside 1st XI (20) 119-6 Chirk 2nd XI (4) 115-10

Put into bat, Chirk seconds’ total of 115 all out never looked enough to win them the game.

Rhys Evans scored highest for the visitors with 24, Ian Plant 3-18 for the hosts.

Quayside lost three very early wickets in reply, but managed to get home on 119-6 from 29.1 overs, George Collins bagging 3-35 for the losing team.
