JD WELSH CUP QUALIFYING ROUND 2

CPD Boded 1 (Boylan 65)
Llanrwst United 2 (Doran 38 & 53)

What a fantastic effort from rank outsiders and new tier 5 side CPD Boded against third-tier opponents Llanrwst United at Cae Ty Cristion today.

In the end, the Anglesey hosts went down by just a single goal to strong opposition currently lying fifth in Ardal North West.

This Welsh Cup encounter got off to a fiery start, Boded playing into the strong wind.

After 10 minutes, Llanrwst’s Conor Davies found himself one-on-one with Boded keeper Connor Hughes, who made a great save.

A good first opening 15 minutes from Boded, who were holding their own against a team two divisions above them and no doubt one of the toughest sides the islanders will come up against this season.

Llanrwst applied much pressure as expected, but the Boded game plan seemed to be working – the defence and midfield putting in some good tackles and Hughes making some fantastic stops.

Llanrwst’s Seydou Bamba was winning plenty of free-kicks, some dubious, but it was from one of these that Leon Doran fired the visitors into a 38th minute lead.

Boded had the wind in their favour after the break, but seven minutes into the second half, Bamba won another disputed free kick and Doran struck again to make it 2-0.

Just after the hour Bamba received a yellow card for simulation inside the box.

Soon after the North Wales Coast West Division One side were right back in the tie.

Chris Jones was taken down just on the edge of the box and from the free kick Casey Boylan sent a rocket past keeper Gwydion Owen to make it 2-1.

It was Boylan’s fifth goal in four games for the Anglesey men.

With nothing to lose, the home side now pressed for an equaliser,

Their efforts bore no reward, but they did make it a nervy final 10 minutes for the Conwy Valley men.

This was a tie where Boded should take the positives and confidence going forward, a match in which they showed great character and proved that whoever they come up against they will know they have been in a game.
