North Wales tier 2 and 3 crowds dwarfed South Wales equivalents on bumper Tuesday evening

Llandudno v Bangor 1876 at Y Morfa, Conwy, pulled in a bumper crowd of 604 – more than double the top attended game in the South. Picture: MATT JOHNSON

Tuesday night’s tier 2 and 3 attendances in North Wales football far outstripped the South, figures show.

In the Cymru North, a whopping 604 watched Llandudno host Bangor 1876, a figure which looks even better considering the match was played at neutral Y Morfa, Conwy.

There was a healthy 427 turnout at Buckley Town v Airbus in Flintshire, while both Denbigh Town v Caersws and Porthmadog v Chirk AAA attracted more than 300 apiece through the gates.

The top Cymru South crowd was the 233 which saw Carmarthen Town and Baglan Dragons share a 0-0 stalemate.

The overall average on the night for Cymru North was 361 compared to the Cymru South’s 172.

And North Wales’ superiority in the head-count stakes at tier 3 was almost equally emphatic.

In Ardal North West, 227 witnessed Nantlle Vale outscore Pwllheli 4-2, while more than 200 were at Llangefni Town v Conwy Borough.

Ardal South’s biggest known audience was the 110 at Treowen Stars v Aberbargoed Bulls.

Ardal Northern’s average crowd was 129 and would have been higher but for the meagre 62 watching Llansantffraid Village v Llanfair United in Ardal North East.

Only 5 attendance figures across the two Ardal Southern leagues were available, the average attendance from those being just 74.

Although these figures are only representative of one midweek night, the North generally pulls in much bigger turnouts than their South equivalents in tiers 2-5 week upon week.
