NWCFA Intermediate Challenge Cup quarter-finals: Llandudno Amateurs and Conwy Borough progress

NWCFA INTERMEDIATE CHALLENGE CUP QUARTER-FINALS REPORTS – OCTOBER 24

CPD Aberffraw 1 Llandudno Amateurs  2

Despite taking a depleted squad to Anglesey with a number of Development players making the step up, Llandudno Amateurs passed a tough examination to reach the semi-finals of the Intermediate Challenge Cup.

In atrocious conditions, the Amateurs were up against a strong wind in the first half, but produced some excellent football.

North Wales Coast West Premier hosts Aberffraw made the breakthrough on 18 minutes with an excellent Arwel Williams header.

The visitors stayed disciplined and equalised in the 33rd minute. A Joe Jones free kick was smartly brought down by David Hansom, who made no mistake with the finish.

Berffro started the second half brightly in spite of the elements being against them, but Amateurs took the lead when Joe Jones netted with a tremendous free kick.

The visitors were pushed onto the backfoot and keeper Kyle King came up with a superb save in a a one-on-one situation to deny the islanders an equaliser.

Despite heavy late home pressure, Llandudno held on to advance to the last four.

Conwy Borough 4 Llanfairfechan Town 3

Conwy held off a strong second half comeback from Llanfairfechan to edge through to the semis at Y Morfa.

Borough were three-up inside 24 minutes, Jack Williams, Cieran Williams and Anthony Poole all on target. Cieran Williams provided two assists and Ethan Hill the other.

Ten minutes into the second half, Llanfairfechan pulled one back when James Cory set up captain Curtis Murray to find the net.

Cory reduced the arrears to a single goal on 71 to set up a Grandstand finish.

Conwy were relieved when new signing James Trevis made it 4-2 on 74, but Town were not finished, Daniel Hughes bagging their third.

It was a tense conclusion, but the Tangerines stayed ahead to progress to the penultimate stage,
