MATCH REPORTS – FRIDAY, AUGUST 4

NATHANIEL MG CUP SECOND ROUND

Caernarfon Town 2 Porthmadog 2 (Porthmadog won 4-2 on penalties)

There was an upset at The Oval as Cymru North visitors Porthmadog triumphed over Cymru Premier hosts Caernarfon via a penalty shoot-out.

In the first competitive meeting between the pair for six seasons, the home team mainly had the better of things before Port broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute, former Canaries winger Danny Brookwell cutting in from the right and applying the finish past keeper Ryan Woods.

New signing Adam Davies brought the Cofis level just before half-time.

After the break, Port keeper Matthew Wallace saved brilliantly from a Sion Bradley header before Ryan Austin put Town ahead on 62.

It looked like Caernarfon were going through, Shaun Cavanagh hitting the bar for the visitors, until Morgan Owen equalised with a screamer with 89 on the clock.

Penalties were needed and all four Port kicks were converted, with Dion Donohue and Rhys Alun missing for the hosts, ensuring Craig Papirnyk’s men advanced to the next round.
Torf/Attendance: 812.

Prestatyn Town 1 Flint Town United 1 (Prestatyn won 4-1 on penalties)

Superiority from the penalty spot booked Prestatyn their place in the next stage of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Flint took an eighth-minute lead when Tom Hilditch’s shot was kept out, but Harley Brindley-Peagram followed up to score.

After efforts at both ends, Joe White missed a big chance when he fired over from an Emmanuel Lawal cross.

Prestatyn’s Mike Burke was also denied by a save before the half, which arrived with the Silkmen still one-up.

The hosts played some good football after the break but struggled to create clear chances until in the 81st minute Dixie Davies crossed and Jonathan Cahill nodded in the equaliser.

So to pens, and the home side prevailed 4-1.

Ruthin Town 0 Bala Town 4

George Newell was a hat-trick hero for holders Bala in an emphatic win at the Memorial Fields.

Nathan Peate also found the net for the Cymru Premier visitors.

ARDAL NORTH WEST LEAGUE

Flint Mountain 2 Llay Welfare 1

New signing Mike Hayes did what he does best on his Mountain debut, scoring twice as his team began their tier 3 campaign with a narrow win over Llay.

Former Bala Town and Caernarfon Town striker Hayes struck on 17 and 33 minutes for Aden Shannon’s side, Jon Collo equalising in between.

In front of a bumper crowd, Llay gave a good account of themselves, but the hosts edged it with that man Hayes the difference.

NORTH WALES COAST WEST LEAGUE

Premier Division

Cemaes Bay 2 Talysarn Celts 1

Tom Wood plundered a brilliant 92nd minute winner to ensure Cemaes began life in tier four with a victory.

The result was sweet revenge for the Anglesey hosts, who had lost 2-1 to Celts at the same venue in the Welsh Cup last weekend.

And Talysarn could easily have taken at least a point in the return as they hit the woodwork twice and threatened regularly on other occasions.

Wood handed Cemaes a half-time lead after finishing superbly following a break down the left.

The prolific Luke Baum’s leveller appeared to have earned Celts a draw, but that man Wood had other ideas.

CPD Llanberis 3 CPD Nefyn United 4

Despite being reduced to 10 men for the entire second half, Nefyn edged a seven-goal stormer at Ffordd Padarn.

Deio Gwilym put the Penwaig one-up on 10 minutes and Rhys Williams added a second after 21 before United’s Llyr Pennant Williams was red-carded on 44.

Ifan Mansoor pulled one back for ‘Beris just before the hour and Kurt Hellfeld made it two-apiece after 64.

However, Nefyn hero Ifan Gwilym Jones then popped up with a double on 74 and 79 and that was enough to win it, although Thomas Collins did reply late for the home team.

CPD Llannerchymedd 0 Glantraeth 0

No goals were scored in a hard-fought Anglesey derby at Tyn Parc.

Menai Bridge Tigers 3 Llanrug United 4

Jamie McDaid was on the mark twice for a Llanrug outfit which ran out close winners at Treborth.

All the goals came in the second half, United edging in front on 48 with a Dion Roberts strike from outside the box.

Veteran Carl Griffiths made it 2-0 on 55 when he chipped keeper David Clarke from near to halfway.

Tigers roared back, Callum Davidson halving the arrears with a fierce hit from inside the box before Sion Hogan equalised with as 25-yard special.

Game on entering the last 20 minutes and that man McDaid took centre stage, the former Cymru Premier player finishing off a near counter-attack on 79 before in added time applying a neat finish after beating two men on the edge of the area.

A Kelvin Frazer free kick made it 4-3 and Menai had a last gasp chance to salvage a draw, but new signing Dean Redmond blazed just over.

Division One

Bontnewydd 4 Llanfairpwll 1

Good start to the season for Bont with Luke Phillips (2, 1 pen), Cris Rowley and Nathan Palmer on the mark, Marquis Holland replying for the visitors.

Caergybi 1 CPD Boded 1

Casey Boylan handed new side Boded a 14th minute lead at Millbank, but Gary Jo Owen made it all-square on 25 and 1-1 is how it stayed.
