Ynys Môn have been competing in the Island Games football tournament since 1989.
The men have taken part in 15 of 16 competitions, winning gold in 1999 and 2019, with the second success being in the Inter-Games Tournament held separately from the main games.
Some fantastic players have represented Anglesey over the years, including striker Eifion Williams, who was tournament top-scorer in 1997 with six goals.
Williams went on to play for Torquay United and Hartlepool in the Football League, as well as starring for Barry Town and Caernarfon Town in the Welsh Premier.
Steve Humphreys, who scored the winner when Ynys Môn beat Isle of Man 1-0 in the 1999 Gotland final, won two League of Wales titles and a Welsh Cup with Bangor City, also representing the Citizens in Europe.
And Island Games veteran Mel McGinness, whose goal won the 2019 final, manages the 2023 squad competing in Guernsey. Mel is one of Anglesey’s leading goal-getters in the history of the games.
Whereas the men first entered the football at the 1989 games, the women were not involved until 2001.
They had only taken part in four Island Games and made little impression before rising to prominence in the 2019 Inter-Games, making it to the final before losing out to Isle of Man.
Lexi Crawley was tournament leading scorer with five goals.
As for 2023, the following players from the 2019 tournament will be involved again:
Men: Gari Owen, Cai Powell-Roberts, Mel McGinness, Sam Jones, Gerwyn Roberts, Liam Morris.
Women: Ceri Pritchard, Sara Furlong, Carol Lewis, Emma Roberts. Cerys Gadd, Charlotte Gill.
There are a few gaps where goalscorers are concerned. Any help which could be given in this regard would be very much appreciated.
