There was double cause for celebration for hosts Ynys Môn as their men’s and women’s teams were victorious on the opening day of the 2019 Inter-Island Games football tournament.

Both sides took on Scotland’s Western Isles, the ladies winning 3-1 thanks to a Lexi Crawley hat-trick, while the males came from behind to win 2-1 with goals from Mel McGinness and Liam Morris.

Six matches took place across Anglesey, producing a total of 30 goals and attracting a combined attendance of almost 3,000.

Individual star of the day was Kieran Lester, who netted four times for Jersey in their 5-0 thrashing of Orkney.
