As we enter the final weeks of the season in North Wales senior football, one man has raced ahead of the rest in the unofficial contest to become the region’s leading goalscorer.
Asa Thomas of Trearddur Bay is on 73 goals across all competitions with one cup final to play.
Asa, 32, has already won the tier 5 North Wales Coast West Division One title with Bay in their comeback season. The Anglesey club hope to move closer to a double when they meet Llanfairpwll in the Division One Cup semi-final next weekend.
Thirteen players in total have now hit the 30-plus goals mark in North Wales senior football during 2022-23.
We salute them, and celebrate them below.
Keeping tabs on everyone can be quite a task, so if you know of anyone who should be in this list please let us know and we’ll amend accordingly – dave@nwsport.co.uk
30 goals in all competitions qualify for a mention
Not only has he scored more league goals than anyone else in North Wales this season, Asa has also become the record marksman of all-time on the North Wales coast with 655 netted between 2007 and the present day.
And to prove he is not just about goals, Asa has also provided the most assists in North Wales Coast Division One this season – 16.
An amazing season for the man who won the tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier title with Bodedern Athletic last term, scoring 58 times in a 126-goal partnership with Marc Evans, who was top in North Wales on 68.
Along with Asa, this young talent is the only player in North Wales to average more than two goals per game this season.
His 44 league goals ensured he finished as a clear golden boot champion in North Wales Coast East Division One.
Harrison banged in nine hat-tricks, including a 7-6-5-4-3-2 and a one…..Thunder Goals are Go! 🚀🚀🚀
He began the season with a treble way back on July 30 and fittingly ended it by scoring the winning goal in his team’s 3-2 victory at Rhyl Dragons on May 3.
Magnificent first full season with Bangor 1876 in the tier 3 Ardal North West League.
Began the campaign with a four-goal salvo against Llanberis and bagged eight hat-tricks during 2022-23.
Corrig is the leading tier 3 Ardal Northern marksman by a street and is closing in on 400 career goals at the age of 26.
Part of a goal-crazy Ruabon side chasing a treble of North East Wales Championship title, Two Counties Cup and Horace Wynne Cup, having reached the finals of the latter two.
Ruabon have scored (by my calculations) 188 goals across 36 games in all competitions this season – 105 of those in 18 matches since the turn of 2023!
The 34-year-old Swarbrick, a former star with Cefn Druids and Denbigh Town, recently made it 50 for the campaign.
He has piled up seven hat-tricks and his cup goals slightly outweigh his league ones.
Has lost goals due to the resignation of Saltney Ferry, whose results all became void, but still 42 in 30 appearances is a marvellous effort from this ex-Mold Alexandra great.
An epic partnership with Swarbrick has delivered 92 goals – almost half of the entire Ruabon team total.
Second only to the unstoppable Harrison Bellis in the North Wales Coast East Division One goal scorers table with 32 league goals.
Azz has scored 39 times in all competitions and played a major role in the Amateurs reaching their first NWCFA Junior Cup Final.
He has netted some stunning goals this term, a truly class player.
Has collected seven hat-tricks this season with a best of seven goals in a single game.
Averaging more than two goals per match in the league, Giles has been a stand-out performer in the North East Wales League Championship.
A spell with tier 3 Hawarden Rangers early in 2023 probably cost him a few more goals, but nonetheless 38 in 21 matches is an awesome total.
Since his return to Aston in March, Pierce has smashed in 13 goals in five matches, including eight in a 15-1 demolition of Bellevue.
Aaron Rogers (Llandudno Amateurs) 39
League: 32 Cups: 7 Appearances: 31
Veteran Forbes has had a brilliant season with the outstanding Holywell Town.
How good is it to see a tier 2 player in this list!
Finished up joint highest scorer in the Cymru North alongside Prestatyn Town’s Dan Atkins with 22 goals.
Dave has also played a leading role in Holywell reaching the NEWFA Challenge Cup final, as well finishing league runners-up in a season where they won 25 games on the bounce. Only an exceptional Colwyn Bay stopped them being champions.
Former Llysfaen striker who joined Kinmel Bay this season and is currently top-scorer in the North Wales Coast East Premier Division with 31 league goals.
Connor has found the net 19 times in his last eight matches, including a double hat-trick versus Glan Conwy and four against Prestatyn Sports.
One of the North Wales signings of the season.
Has formed a magical partnership with Azz Rogers up front, the pair sharing 73 goals in all competitions and 57 in the league (over just 22 fixtures).
Joe will also go down in history as the top goal-getter in the final season of the Rhyl and District Sunday League. His 34 goals in 30 matches for the Amateurs is magnificent.
With 33 goals in 29 games, Ryan has been a key figure in St Asaph winning the North Wales Coast East Premier Division title.
He joined Saints from Rhuddlan Town at the start of 2022-23 and has been unstoppable in both league and cup.
Has already won a couple of ‘Potts’ with the Roe Plas Meadows side, with the Cookson Cup also in the bag, and there is a NWCFA Intermediate Cup Final to come.
The youngest player in our list of 30-plus goal merchants.
At just 18, and aged 17 for most of the 2022-23 season, Connor has been amazing.
To score 32 goals in 30 games at tier 4 is some achievement. At one stage he grabbed hat-tricks in three matches in a row and found the net in seven successive games.
Connor is current top scorer in the North Wales Coast West Premier on 22 league goals.
