“We’ll keep fighting for the title until the last ball is kicked” – Holywell Town manager Johnny Haseldin

Holywell Town manager Johnny Haseldin insists his team will keep battling for the league title until the final ball of the season is kicked.

With three matches apiece left in the JD Cymru North, Colwyn Bay top the table by three points from the Wellmen.

As the Seagulls also have a superior goal difference of 25 over Town, and two of Steve Evans team’s remaining fixtures are against next-to-bottom Penrhyncoch, Colwyn are firm favourites to get the six points required which would guarantee them the title, bar a mathematical miracle.

The current standings are:

Colwyn Bay: Played 27 Points 76 Goal Difference + 72

Remaining games
Saturday, April 1: Penrhyncoch (home)
Friday, April 7: Penrhyncoch (away)
Saturday, April 15: Llandudno (home)

Holywell Town: Played 27 Points 73 GD + 47

Remaining games
Saturday, April 1: Prestatyn Town (away)
Friday, April 7: Llandudno (home)
Saturday, April 15: Holyhead Hotspur (away)

Although second favourites to finish at the peak, Holywell have put together a fantastic run of 24 straight league wins, one of those victories ending Bay’s season-long unbeaten record with a 3-1 triumph at the Four Crosses Construction Arena last Saturday.

Haseldin, who has won tier 3 Welsh Alliance League and Welsh National (Wrexham Area) Premier Division titles before with the Wellmen, is yet to claim the second-tier Cymru North crown. The team’s best finish to date is last season’s fourth.

The long-serving boss wants to put that right and believes his men are more than capable.

“We don’t want the season to end,” said Haseldin.

“We have three games left to play and our objective is obviously to win those three games.

“There is a fantastic buzz around the club at the moment and the players are thriving on it and are desperate to keep that going.

“We can’t control what happens in Colwyn Bay’s remaining fixtures but in football you can’t stop believing and that’s what has got us into this position and we will continue to do exactly that.

“We have piled the pressure on them with three games to go – it’s squeaky bum time now.

“We have done everything possible since August to not let them run away with the league, when everyone else thought we would fall away…We have never given up hope of catching them and we will keep fighting until the final whistle of the last game if possible.”
