One of the stars of Bangor Cricket Club’s 2019 championship-winning campaign is returning to Ty Newydd this season.
South African all-rounder Franco Kasner took 59 wickets and scored 340 runs as Bangor lifted the North Wales League Premier Division title four years ago.
Kasner, 31, hails from Western Province and is a right-arm off-spinner and middle order batsman.
In 2019, his 59 wickets came at a cost of just 8.66 apiece and included four five-for hauls. He notched three half-centuries with a top score of 65.
Back home, Kasner’s clubs have included Tygerberg and Vikings in the Western Province Cricket Association leagues.
Bangor captain Robbie Marshall said: “We couldn’t be happier to have him back, and we look forward to seeing him on the Ty Newydd field throughout 2023.”
Bangor CC have big plans for 2023, the most significant of which includes the appointment of former Glamorgan pace bowler Will Owen as cricket director.
Other player signings for this year include young talents Nathan Berry and Sam Bright.
Skipper Marshall added: “Nathan joins us from South Wales. He’s an unbelievable wicket keeper and a prolific run scorer. We know he’s going to be a perfect addition to the club and can’t wait to see him play.”
Wales Under-18 international Bright joins from Colwyn Bay and is right-arm off-spinner and middle order bat.
“Sam is a quality young player with bags of potential,” said Marshall. “He’s already posted some big scores at his previous club, but we’re super excited to see how he can progress his career at Ty Newydd.”
