North Wales Cricket League Premier Division Team of the Half-Season

Having just entered the second segment of the 2019 North Wales Cricket League campaign, it seems a good time to assess what’s gone on so far and choose a Team of the Half-Season.

Duncan Midgley (St Asaph)

This well-travelled run machine is really getting into the groove now, having hit two scores in the 90s in recent weeks to take him up to 349 league runs at an average of 49.86.
St Asaph opener is arguably the most destructive batsman in the division.

David Winter (Bangor)

Former all-rounder is strictly a batsman these days – and what a dynamic batter he can be.
Has struck 435 league runs to date at 48.33 with two half-tons and a century.

Dan Evans (Llandudno)

All-rounder’s season burst to life recently with two centuries in a weekend for Llandudno in the league and Welsh Cup.
Evans has chalked up 370 league runs and notched 21 wickets in 2019 so far, but there is probably much more to come.

Matthew Humphreys (Mochdre – captain)

Player of the season so far in my book as he has led promoted Mochdre towards what looks like a genuine Premier League title challenge.
Humphreys is the league’s top run-scorer with 487 at a belting average of 81.17, including a first-team best 185 versus Connah’s Quay. Has also scooped 12 league wickets.

Sean O’Callaghan (Menai Bridge)

It’s been a good start to the season for the champions’ latest overseas find.
Left-arm spinner O’Callaghan has taken 28 league wickets, including a match-winning 7-18 against Bangor, and posted 262 runs, boosted by two half-centuries.

Ammar Mahmood (Northop)

Right-arm spin comes in the shape of Northop’s key all-rounder Mahmood, who has been central in his team’s bursts of good form.
Mahmood has concocted 353 league runs at 44.13, including four fifties, and scooped 14 wickets.

James French (Mochdre)

The choice of wicket-keeper was a really close call between Bangor’s Rob Marshall and Mochdre’s French, who has been such a reliable middle-order run-getter in 2019.
James edged the vote having recorded three half-centuries in his 300 league runs, as well as claiming 13 catches and two stumpings, the joint fourth-best WK stats in the entire NWCL.

Franco Kasner (Bangor)

Following in the footsteps of Francois Mostert, Bangor’s pro between 2015-17, was always going to be tough, but Springbok Kasner has done a decent job so far.
The all-rounder has bagged 30 league wickets at 8.50, including a best of 6-32, and has also contributed two half-tons in the runs department.

Sam Lewis (Denbigh)

This is shaping into the all-rounder’s best season so far for Denbigh.
As well as snapping up 27 league wickets with his fast-medium seamers, he has also scored 165 runs. And he made an outstanding 95 in the recent Welsh Cup defeat to Llandudno.

Jason Foulkes (St Asaph)

Excellent new-ball bowler is on the verge of reaching 300 career wickets for his club.
Foulkes has recorded 21 league victims this term and is also very capable with the bat, as he has shown regularly in recent seasons.

Jack Rimmington (Llandudno – capt)

Paceman has stood out opening the bowling for Llandudno this campaign, taking 29 league wickets at an average of 12.93.
Good combination alongside Foulkes with the new cherry and there are all sorts of other bowling options available if the wickets are not tumbling.
