NORTH WALES WOMEN’S FOOTBALL LEAGUE – MARCH 12, 2023

Llanystumdwy 0
CPDM Bangor 1876 5 (Donougher pen 20, L Thomas 26, C Parry 41, E Jones 52, M Roberts 89)

Five different scorers, a 19th win in 20 matches and a 15th clean sheet in the league this season – a good day’s work for leaders Bangor 1876.

Stevie Donougher opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 20th minute – her 27th goal of the season, all in the NWWFL.

Lisa Thomas made it 2-0 from an Ella Jones assist and Donougher set up Cerys Parry to add a third on 41 minutes.

Llanystumdwy put up a great battle and were always looking to get a foothold in the game, but when Ella Jones pocketed her 13th of the campaign in the 52nd minute, Donougher with another assist, the points were in the bag.

And Donougher made it a hat-trick of set-ups when she enabled Mia Roberts to score number five in the 89th minute.

Reflecting after the match, winning manager Aron Griffith: “We moved the ball quick and direct to get the goals. There was great link up between the four attacking players and solid structure in midfield and defence, and of course I was well chuffed with another clean sheet.

“Massive congratulations to Beca Hughes, another of our under-19’s players, breaking through the ranks and gaining her debut for our senior team.

“We have a week’s break now and 2 tough matches to finish the season off, but I have faith in the girls. They’ve been outstanding.”

Bangor 1876’s two remaining league matches will be home and away to Pwllheli.

Already assured of runners-up, 1876 can only be overhauled by Pwllheli, who have 12 matches left.
