Fourth league win in a row for Denbigh Town but opponents Brickfield make it tough

Win number four on the bounce in the league kept fourth-place Denbigh nicely in touch with the leaders.

Having hammered Brickfield 9-1 at Central Park last month, Town found the return at Clywedog Park more testing,

The visitors stamped their authority on the match early, with home keeper Joe Lawlor forced to make stops from Nathan Brown, Jake Walker and Jason Foulkes.

In the 15th minute the deadlock was broken, Brown’s corner finding Paul Fleming who rose above both keeper and defence to power home a header high into the roof of the Brickfield net.

This was the wake up call the home side needed and on 22 minutes, despite not having any previous shots on goal, were level following a fine ball over the top for Jardel Lima Teixeira to run onto before dispatching home a delightful shot.

On 28 minutes, Jake Walker was in on the action, smartly turning his defender, before unleashing a snap shot that forced Lawlor to parry at the near post.

In the 33rd minute Brown restored Denbigh’s lead, collecting the ball in central midfield, taking one look before unleashing an unstoppable shot from a full 30 yards which sailed over the keeper.

Denbigh went in at the break with a slender lead, knowing full well they had a battle on their hands in the second half to secure the three points.

The second half was much more of an even affair.

On 61 minutes, the visitors had Aaron Jones to thank, coming off his line to pull off a fine save to deny Isaac Dawson.

After 72 minutes, Jacob Edwards was introduced for his debut, having joined from Nantwich Town replacing the ever industrious Foulkes.

Denbigh went 3-1 up on 79 minutes. Some good inter-play between Ben Lockley and Edwards allowed the latter to whip in a teasing cross, which the Rangers defence could only part clear.

The ball fell to Matthew Worrall, who skipped inside his defender before unleashing a low drive down to the keeper’s left from the edge of the box to score.

Another vital three points for Dewi Llion’s men. Not pretty at times, but a professional and calm performance on a bobbly pitch against a well disciplined and much improved Brickfield side.
