ARDAL NORTH WEST REPORT – FEBRUARY 3, 2023

TABLE after match played on Friday, February 3: http://www.allwalessport.co.uk

BANGOR 1876 4 (Clarke 15 & 45+2, McGonigle 34 & 90+4)
LLANDUDNO ALBION 2 (Evans 80, Moorhouse 90)

Corrig McGonigle’s 45th goal of the season deep into added time clinched the three points which sent 1876 back to the Ardal North West summit.

Leading 3-0 at half time, Bangor looked set for an emphatic win, but Albion threatened to grab a surprise draw after scoring twice in the last 10 minutes.

It was some relief to Bangor when McGonigle’s free kick flew in to ensure Michael Johnston’s side went top on goal difference having played two games less than second-place Rhyl 1876.

Albion prepare to defend a corner

Defender Tom Clarke’s accurate looping header put the home side one-up after 15 minutes.

The lead was doubled on 34 minutes when another precise header, this time from McGonigle, beat keeper Ashley Lavender.

When Clarke made it 3-0 with a firm shot two minutes into overtime at the end of the half, the fans inside Treborth could be forgiven for thinking the contest was all over.

This was not the case as Albion battled hard to stay in the match in the second period.

It was not until nine minutes from time, however, that Dan Evans reduced the arrears from close range.

When Jamie Moorhouse made it 3-2 with 90 on the clock, there may have been a few jitters in the home camp.

However, with 94 played, McGonigle made it 45 goals from 21 games across all competitions with a curling free kick from the edge of the edge to seal the result.
