NORTH WALES COAST EAST LEAGUE DIVISION ONE REPORTS

REVISED TABLE FOLLOWING RESIGNATION OF BETWS-Y-COED – AS AT JANUARY 14, 2023: http://www.allwalessport.co.uk

CPD Y Glannau 3 Abergele 4

Despite being given a really tough test by fellow promotion challengers Y Glannau, Abergele prevailed to win 4-3 and make it 36 league games without defeat since July 2021 (31 wins, 5 draws).

Midway through the first half Glannau danger man Harrison Bellis fired home from range to see the home side into the interval 1-0 ahead.

Tactical changes at half time by managers Luke Binns and James Hay saw a much different Gele second half.

Jack Hoult, with a clever header from a Greg Hilditch throw, levelled and shortly after Sam Ashton was fouled in the box. Hilditch sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 1-2.

Bellis equalised for Glannau on the hour mark after a great run and cross from Chris McQuillen..

But 10 minutes later Abergele again took the lead.

Clever play out wide from Hoult saw him whip in a cross that Dom Holland headed down to Ashton, who smartly beat his man and fired a left foot shot into the top corner.

A Kyle Hedge header at the back post made it 3-3 and it looked like both teams were taking away a point.

The introduction of Liam Roberts with 10 minutes to go changed the game with Gele pushing for a winner.

James Lloyd beat two men in the middle of the park and played in Roberts, who drilled home from just inside the area to secure all three points for Abergele in the 87th minute.

Bow 6 Penrhyn Bay 0

Six of the best from Bow who gave a debut to new striker Mike Chapman and Arron Jones as captain.

In just the second minute Chapman beat several players to lay the ball off to Tom Weir, who slotted into an empty net.

The next 15 minutes saw Penrhyn Bay find their rhythm and play some good football, mainly through captain Solomon Dickens in the middle.

However, in the 17th minute a lovely team goal saw several players involved before Kyle Lally applied the finish.

After the second goal Bow bombarded Bay for the remainder of the first half, but keeper Bernardas Subkovas produced great saves to deny Weir, Chapman, Josh Lally and Kyle Lally.

Two minutes before the break, a long throw from John Atherton was headed home by Kelvin Berks, making it 3-0 half time.

In the second half Bow rang the changes to give players game time, but they continued to pile on the pressure with Subkovas forced into more super stops.

The home side had to wait until the 65th minute before sub Loui O’Carroll made it 4-0 with a 45-yard stunner.

In the 70th minute some great vision from Elliot Price saw him find O’Carroll on the wing. He went past two players and played a pass off to Cal Foster, who beat a couple of opponents before smashing home another beauty.

Weir danced through the Penrhyn defence to make it six before the end.

Man of the match for Bow was Richard Hill.

Rogers is now on 23 goals for the season and Jones 19.

To their credit, Rhyl All Stars were down to eight players at one stage, but put up a determined effort to keep the score down.
