ARDAL NORTH LEAGUE CUP REPORT

Denbigh Town 3 (Fleming 3)
Bangor 1876 1 (McGonigle)

Captain Fantastic Paul Fleming notched a hat-trick to send Denbigh through to the next round of the league cup at the expense of Bangor 1876.

And the home side achieved this not inconsiderable feat despite having to field forward Kristian Pierce as an emergency goalkeeper.

In the first-ever meeting between these sides, Denbigh started well with Nathan Brown and Billy Holmes both going close with early shots.

And Town took an 18th minute lead when Fleming ghosted in at the far post to finish from close range.

Jason Foulkes curled a great effort just off target for the home team before 1876 levelled out of the blue in the 40th minute.

Corrig McGonigle found himself at an acute angle, but managed to fire the ball home for his 35th goal of the campaign.

Brown and Fleming fired just off target early in the second half before Pierce produced a great finger-tip save.

Then after 56 minutes Town were back in front.

Fleming worked his way into the box before jinking the ball smartly over keeper Huw Shaw for 2-1.

Denbigh stayed solid and then in the 80th minute went 3-1 up when Fleming applied another clinical finish to complete a memorable hat-trick.

And that clinched the tie for Dewi Llion Jones’ heroes.
