ARDAL NORTHERN LEAGUES REPORTS – OCTOBER 29

ARDAL NORTH WEST

Llangefni Town 10 (Powell-Roberts 8, Saxon 26, Smith 32, Thomas 40, 42 pen & 71, Stanley-Williams 59 & 67, C Jones 63, G Roberts 83)
Bodedern Athletic 0

Ruthless Llangefni registered their biggest league win for many years at the expense of Anglesey rivals Bodedern Athletic last weekend.

Available records dating back to 2004-05 reveal Cefni had certainly not won a league game since then by such a huge margin prior to Saturday’s double-figure score at Cae Bob Parry. The nearest to it was a 10-1 home demolition of Glan Conwy in the 2016-17 Welsh Alliance campaign.

What made Town’s latest result most surprising was the fact they lost 4-1 at Boded early in the season and James Saxon’s side had previously managed just a single league victory this term.

There was no stopping them on Saturday, though.

Cai Powell Roberts opened the scoring on eight minutes with a well taken free kick.

Bodedern kept it at one for almost another 20 minutes before Cefni manager Saxon sneaked in the second goal from a corner. Jack Smith added the third just past the half-hour.

Things began to look quite bleak for Bodedern, Town controlling every aspect of the game.

Dewi Thomas scored the first of his hat-trick on 40 minutes. Frustration was setting in among the Bodedern crew and before half time, Jordan Taylor was sent off for a second yellow card.

To add to the visitors’ woes a penalty was awarded which Dewi Thomas easily put away. Half-time: 5-0.

Saxon came off early in the second half, replaced by youngster Leon Owens, while defender Andrew Jones took the field instead of Alun Roberts.

Josh Stanley Williams scored the first of the second half goals followed by Cameron Jones. Town then brought off Powell-Roberts to give Iwan Sawicz an opportunity.

By this stage Llangefni were rampant in attack.

Stanley Williams notched his second, then Dewi Thomas had a chance from the penalty spot, but a great save from Carl Jones denied him a hat-trick.

However, Thomas did grab his third on 71 minutes. Cameron Jones came off, Gerwyn Roberts went on and within minutes he notched Llangefni’s 10th.

Flint Mountain 4 Hawarden Rangers 3

Goals from Andy Brown, Ieuan Hewitt, Kyle Smyth and Pete Martin ensured the Mountain collected all three points from a thriller at the Essity Stadium.

Hawarden made a real go of it, leading three times in the match through Ellis Jones, Joshua Davies and Aaron North.

Rangers were 3-2 up at half time, but Mountain got more to grips with the game in the second period.

Llanrwst United 3 Rhostyllen 1

Leon Doran, Sam Roberts and a crucial 92nd minute third goal from Gruffudd Ap Gwyndaf ensured the Rwsters overcame the bottom side, who replied in the 86th through Taylor Williams.

Corwen’s Charlie Parkinson up against Gethin Evans of Dolgellau

Dolgellau edged up to fourth in Ardal North East with a three-goal triumph over third-from-bottom visitors Corwen.

Heavy overnight rain and morning showers had put the game in doubt; however the pitch held up well and passed an inspection with flying colours.

The visitors made a positive start and in an early attack Delwyn Jones shot narrowly wide.

Gerwyn Williams went close at the other end before Corwen’s Delwyn Jones failed to make a good connection after Scott Evans drove across the box following a Henry Evans free kick.

The deadlock was broken on the quarter hour mark when Gerwyn Williams crossed into the path of Iwan Jones, who fired home from 14 yards.

Six minutes later Rob Kimberley sent a cross into the Corwen box, forcing keeper Nathan Roberts to come sprinting off his line and save Owain Williams’ effort with his legs.

Things got tougher for Corwen on 23 minutes when Roberts came sprinting out of his area to clear a ball, but saw it fall at the feet of an opposition player, leading to a move which ended with Johan Auf Den Kemp making it 2-0.

Gerwyn Williams brought a great save out of Roberts before the break.

After the interval Scott Evans spotted home keeper Darren Andrews off his line and went for goal from the centre circle, but was thwarted by a fine save.

Corwen were refused what looked like a penalty when Gruff Evans went down in the area before Dolgellau put the points under lock and key in the 85th minute.

Keeper Roberts’ clearance from a back pass was won by a home player, leading to Jack Jarvis looping the ball into the air, enabling Gerwyn Williams to leap and head home.

Cefn Albion 2 Builth Wells 0

Albion returned to the summit after two second-half Luke Griffin penalties sealed them three points.

Callum Mannion was dismissed towards the end for the home team.

Llangollen Town 2 Llanuwchllyn 4

Gwydion Ifan, Joe Williams, Nathan Davies and Warren Aykroyd-Duckett provided the goals which banked an away win for Llanuwchllyn.

Joshua Pilgrim and Benjamin Wilson hit back for the home side.

Penycae 3 Llanrhaeadr-Ym-Mochnant 1

Zac Davies, Danny Holland (penalty) and Ben Duffy all found the target for Penycae in a well-deserved victory against the bottom side, whose response came via William France.
