Denbigh Cricket Club – 2022 North Wales League Division One champions

NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION ONE REPORTS – SEPTEMBER 17

Denbigh (15) 72-1 Buckley (0) 71-10

Eight years after winning their last Division One title, Denbigh have done it again.

The Vale of Clwyd side had long secured an instant return to the Premier, but Saturday delivered the icing on the cake with the crowning as champions.

Home skipper Thomas Schrimshaw won the toss, put Buckley into bat, and the visitors were bowled out for just 71.

Joe Lewis took 4-12 off eight overs, Harrison Jones 3-6 from five and Ifan Jones 2-25.

Needing 13 points to make sure of the title, Denbigh pocketed the maximum 15 after reaching 72-1 in 24.2, Sam Lewis 48 no and Harrison Jones 20 no.

It has been a tremendous team effort throughout the season from a team which won 21 out of 22 league matches.

Stand-outs include Harrison Jones with 736 runs, including the highest league score for the season of 203, plus 42 Division One wickets at a miserly 7.40.

Sam Lewis piled up 661 runs and 31 wickets, Gerallt Lyall chalked up 554 runs and Joe Lewis scooped 39 wickets.

Opener Lyall passed the 9,000 total runs mark for the club during the campaign.

Llanrwst lost their Division One status after an 89-run defeat at The Marian.

Wales Over-50 international Phil Leeds then broke Llanrwst’s hearts, taking 5-13 as the away side crumbled to 63 all out. Mark Edmondson caused early damage with 3-23.

Marchwiel & Wrexham (14) 96-6 Bangor 2nd XI (1) 95-10

In a low-scoring affair at Marchwiel Hall, the home side managed to save their Division One skins at the expense of already relegated Bangor seconds.

Faisal Khan made a stoic 48 as Bangor were sent packing for just 95, Sion Edwards 3-15, Phil Oddie 3-31 and Josh Williams 2-7 for the hosts.

Marchwiel and Wrexham’s passage to victory was not without its shudders, but they got to 96-6 in 25 overs, Scott Lawrenson a vital 36 no, Tanvirbhai Salimbhai Saiyad 3-11 off eight to end the season on 32 wickets, including a league best 9-25, Andy Williams picking up 2-25.
