Bethesda moved joint top of the Premier Division after a crushing win in this afternoon’s derby at Penrhiw.

Father and son Mike and Benn Lundstram were both on target for Mark Hughes’ side, who join Pwllheli on 13 points from six games.

In a lively start, visitors Pesda took the lead after four minutes when new signing Benn Lundstram played in Dean Redmond, who showed some neat footwork before scoring with a calm finish.

Not long after, Mynydd went close to equalising after Tomos Williams broke into the box but sent a shot across goal narrowly wide.

Bethesda went two-up on 13 minutes when they sprung the home offside trap. A ball over the defence found Daniel Hughes in space, and he calmly chipped home goalkeeper Ben Parker.

Athletic found themselves three goals ahead when following a throw-in on the left, debutant Benn Lundstram tried a shot on the turn.

His initial effort was blocked but he managed to side-foot home the rebound.

The visitors had a glorious chance to further extend their advantage shortly afterwards when the home defence misjudged a bouncing ball. Redmond was clean through on goal but sent his left-footed effort wide.

Just before the half hour, a long throw from the right reached Mike Lundstram, but his flicked header went just beyond the back post.

Inside the last 10 minutes of the half, Bethesda again went close to extending their lead from a free-kick.

Redmond’s well-placed effort looked like it was heading in until Parker managed to stick out a foot to divert it wide.

Although Bethesda’s goalkeeper Dave Clarke had a largely quiet first half, he had to look lively to turn away a powerful shot from Leon Buckland.

In the final minute of the opening period, Kyle Hartleb broke down the left and cut inside, but his powerful shot just missed the target.

HALF-TIME: Mynydd Llandegai 0-3 Bethesda Athletic

Inside the opening 30 seconds of the second half, Mynydd had a great chance to reduce the deficit when the ball was worked towards Buckland in space just inside the penalty area. However, his side-footer was straight at Clarke, who saved comfortably.

Although Bethesda did not create as many chances in the second period, Lundstram and Redmond were a constant threat up front. Just after the hour, Redmond shielded the ball well before sending a shot just wide on the turn.

At the other end, Osian Jones was not too far away with a strike from the edge of the box.

With just over 20 minutes left, Bethesda scored a fourth. A free-kick was floated into the box and headed in by Mike Lundstram at the back post.

Lundstram made a decisive impact at the other end as he dispossessed Osian Jones when he looked set to have a clean run on goal.

Athletic almost added a fifth when Hartleb cut the ball back to Benn Lundstram, but his flicked effort went just wide. The debutant striker again threatened, but Parker tipped his attempt over the bar.
