North East Wales League Veterans is back – as a one-division competition

The North East Wales Football League Veterans competition will operate as one division this season.

Since the Vets were introduced in 2017/18, they have run as a cup competition, a single league and then became a two-division contest in 2019-20.

Last season there was again a Premier and Championship, but in 2022-23 the Vets will be a 12-team, one division competition.

Matches have kicked off and latest results are:

Buckley Town 0 Connah’s Quay Nomads 2 (Paul Whittaker, Mike Salusbury)

FC Queen’s Park P-P Mynydd Isa Spartans

Hawarden Rangers 7-2 Brickfield Rangers

Mochdre Sports 3-0 Connah’s Quay Navy Club

Penmaenmawr Phoenix 0-2 Ruthin Town

Point of Ayr 1 (Dan Buchanan) CPD Caerwys 4 (Terry Jones, Sam Scott, Jon Kenworthy, 1 OG)

Report

Mochdre Vets 3
Connah’s Quay Navy Vets 0

The first game of the new season saw Mochdre get off to a flier.

Phil Holland opened the scoring from long distance.

Later in the first half new signing Andy Beare lashed one in with his left peg.

Mochdre made a slow start to the second half and Craig Robert Fairclough made a top class save to keep the two-goal lead intact.

A mix up between the Connah’s Quay back line let another new signing Craig Richardson slip in to nudge the ball past an out rushing keeper.

Winning manager Joe Drawbridge said: “Proud of the progress the team has made in one year and we have a good squad which continues to improve.”
