SHROPSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE

Chirk 1st XI (20) 213-8 Worfield 2nd XI (5) 175-10

Wynn Jones was the toast of Chirk after his maiden ton did most to secure another win for the Division One table-toppers.

Jones finished on 103 not out as the hosts posted a total of 213-8 off 45 overs after being put into bat by visitors Worfield seconds.

The opener’s knock came off 115 balls and included 11 fours and two sixes.

Jones shared in a first-wicket stand of 53 with Liam Walker, whose 22 was the second highest score of the home innings.

Piers Rouwenhorst took an eye-catching 3-12 off nine overs for the visitors.

Rouwenhorst also stood out with the bat, making 76 as Worfield were bowled out for 175.

Liam Walker collected 3-7, Jonathan Phillips 2-23, Dale Randall 2-28 and Ollie Gough 2-29 for the home team, who now head the table by an impressive 18 points.

DIVISION SIX

Coton Hall 1st XI (5) 137-10 Chirk 2nd XI (20) 161-9

What a day Saturday turned out to be for Chirk CC as the second team claimed their first win in 11 matches.

A great result for the bottom side in Division Six came on the back of a big victory for the Colliers’ first team in Division One, which put them 18 points clear at the summit.

Chirk seconds’ last victory had come in May against the same team they beat on Saturday – Coton Hall.

The latest clash saw Chirk invited to bat and score 161-9 off 35 overs, opener Rob Williams best with 53, David Lunt 36 and Jay Patel 34.

Coton Hall were then bowled out for 137, George Collins with the best away return of 3-35, Connor Bailey scooping 2-21, Patel 2-29 and Martin Wright 2-33.

Chirk seconds are sadly still 46 points adrift at the basement, but what a tonic Saturday’s win could prove to be.
