Colwyn Bay ladies strike at the double to hit top spot in North Wales Cricket League

Colwyn Bay were on form again this week

Two good wins this week enabled Colwyn Bay to grab a hold on top spot in the North Wales Women’s Cricket League.

The Bay defeated both Dolgellau and Llandudno to make it 10 wins from 11 matches this season.

Wednesday, July 27

Llandudno 89-6 (net score 259) Colwyn Bay 108-4 (net score 288)

Result: Colwyn Bay (20 pts) beat Llandudno (6 pts) by 29 runs

Llandudno batted first and scored 89-6 off 16 overs for a net total of 259.

Charlotte MacKinley made 14, Emma Hogg 11 and Laura Lambe 14 (once out = 9).

Sue Wolfendale and Jane Smith both took 2-9 for the Bay, Julie Russell and Hannah Kennedy claiming a wicket apiece.

In reply, Amy Kennedy was Bay’s star batter with 21, Hannah Kennedy adding 20 (once out = 15) and Linda Brayshay 14 in a score of 108-4 (net 288) making it a 29-run victory for the visitors.

Laura Lambe scooped 2-25 and Sophie Deering picked up a single wicket for the hosts.

Tuesday, July 26

Colwyn Bay 107-3 (net score 292) Dolgellau 55-8 (net 215)

Result: Colwyn Bay (20 pts) beat Dolgellau (4) by 77 runs

Amy Kennedy (2-3), Kerry Roberts (2-7) and Sue Wolfendale (2-12) all struck at the double as Bay limited Dolgellau to 55-8 after putting their hosts into bat.

Pallavi Dodia and Hannah Kennedy also took a wicket each, while Heledd Savage hit 16 for Dolgellau, reduced to a net 6 for twice out.

Hannah Kennedy then struck an impressive 27 as Colwyn responded with 107-3 to clinch a 77-run success.

Jane Smith added 13, while for Dol, Ffion Gittins pocketed 2-16 and Savage 1-12.
