On the eve of the 2022 Gwynedd and Anglesey Netball Summer League season, we celebrate the emergence of the big breakthrough club of winter 2021/22 – TIM O WALIS.
The Caernarfon-based club won both senior divisions and three of the four junior leagues – as well as a host of cups.
The club was originally set up in 2013 as “a bit of fun” and so the name Tim o Walis came from the much-loved character Wali Tomos from S4C hit comedy Cmon Midffild!
Player and one of the club’s driving forces Lois McGrath said: “I think our success is down to the drive and real interest of our amazing coaches, who want to create opportunities for the kids.”
The Walis were set up nine years ago by Nia Tomos, who was then selected to train for canoeing in the Olympics.
Back in 2014, she was one of 12 athletes fast-tracked into the GB Canoeing World Class Programme after successfully coming through the Girls4Gold talent identification campaign.
Also a rugby star for hometown team Caernarfon and Scarlets, Nia returned to netball in 2020 and the Walis had grown from 1 to 10 teams!
