Jack Thornton’s heroics save Llandudno seconds from shock first defeat in Division Four

NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE DIV FOUR REPORTS – JUNE 4

Llanrwst 2nd XI (4) 67-10 Llandudno 2nd XI (11) 71-10

Jack Thornton had a great day with bat and ball but his team Llandudno 2nds very nearly came a surprise cropper at Gwydir Park.

Having won most of their games in a canter so far, Tudno scraped a four-run success over Llanrwst 2nds to only just retain their perfect record.

Now with seven straight wins on their slate, The Oval side enjoy a 40-point lead at the summit, but Thornton got them out of jail in the Conwy Valley.

Put into bat, the table-toppers were bowled out for just 71, Jack Thornton making a major difference with his 24 runs.

Scott Thomas took 4-19 from nine and Berwyn Hughes 3-20 for the hosts.

In response, despite a battling 26 from Callum McMillan, Llanrwst were all out for 67.

Jack Thornton really came into his own with the ball, snaring 6-30, while Andrew Christian collected 2-24 in a really close contest.

Carmel and District 2nd XI (2) 55-10 Hawarden Park 3rd XI (13) 112-10

A modest score of 112 after being put into bat was more than enough to deliver victory for Hawarden Park 3rds.

Opener Kenneth Evans (26) produced the Park’s biggest contribution, while for Carmel, Umar Jatala took 4-10 and Vipin James 3-13.

Luca Brooks then pocketed 3-12, Harry Black 2-5 and Luke Tyndall 2-11 as the hosts were skittled out for 55.

Points: 13-2 to Hawarden Park 3rds.

Corwen (14) 31-2 Bersham 2nd XI (1) 30-9

A match which listed just 26 overs – not, in fact, the shortest contest of the day – saw Corwen triumph by eight wickets.

Put into bat, visitors Bersham managed just 30-9 off 17.4 overs, Gareth Rigden 3-0 and Nathan Aldridge 2-6 for the hosts, who then reached 31-2 in 8.2 to seal a 14-1 points verdict.

Dolgellau 2nd XI (10) Marchwiel and Wrexham 2nd XI (-15)

Marchwiel and Wrexham 2nds conceded.

Llay Welfare 2nd XI (-15) Halkyn 2nd XI (10)
