Ynys Môn is officially green!
Yes, we know it’s a beautiful, environmentally-conscious island with lots of gorgeous greenness…..but now it is really, really green. Greener than the Jolly Green Giant – and boy was he green!
In politics, we have Plaid Cymru taking total control of Ynys Môn council.
In last week’s local elections, The Party of Wales – whose colours are green and yellow but chiefly green – managed to cross the threshold for majority, which is 18 members.
Of the 35 seats available, 21 went to Plaid Cymru. They rule Anglesey.
But Ynys Môn has in the past fortnight got much, much greener – and it is thanks to football!
BODEDERN ATHLETIC, who won the tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier Division title on April 29, play in green and are known as the Green Army.
And CPD LLANNERCHYMEDD, just crowned champions of the tier 5 North Wales Coast West Division One, also wear green shirts.
Bodedern have had a season like never before. They may have won trophies at a higher level, but the 2021-22 campaign has been something truly special for the village side.
After winning their first 18 Premier Division matches of the season, Ricky Williams’ men made national headlines when they topped the Global League Stats table for non-league clubs in the UK.
The achievement made them the best non-league form side across the home nations.
By the time they clinched the title, following nearest challengers Bangor 1876’s defeat at Glantraeth, Boded were still undefeated in the league all season – 27 matches and 26 wins.
They did not quite go through the entire 2021-22 campaign unbeaten as they lost 3-1 at Bangor 1876 in their final match, but the title was already under lock and key by then.
Llannerchymedd were in an ultra-tough Division One, having to stave off the fierce challenges of Bethesda Athletic, Cemaes Bay and Talysarn Celts (green) for top spot.
But succeed they did and now the Tan Parc club are poised to move into Tier 4.
How about next season? How Green Was My CPD Y Fali?
KERMIT THE FROG once sang ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green’ but the silly Muppet never tried living on Anglesey, where green is very much for GO!
It’s not that easy being greeeeeeen
Unless you live on Angleseeeeeey
And then if your name is Bodedern, Llannerchymedd or Plaid Cymru
You smash your opponents just liiiiike that
