CHIRK AAA were crowned inaugural champions of the Tier 3 Ardal North East League in tremendous style this afternoon when they beat Berriew 4-0 at Holyhead Road.

Needing just a point from their penultimate game to seal a first title since winning the Welsh National League Premier Division in 2012-13, the Colliers delivered in clinical fashion in front of their magnificent supporters.

Ashton Williams got the party started with a 27th minute opening goal and a Dale Davies penalty on the half-hour put the champagne on ice.

Tomos Williams made it 3-0 just before the hour and Jack Edwards added a fourth in the 69th minute.

HOW THE TITLE WAS WON

Chirk could not have made a better start to life in the new Tier 3 Ardal North East League, winning their first 12 matches on the bounce.

The only mini-blip of their season came in December, when they crashed 5-2 at chief title rivals of the time Llanfair United and then went down 2-1 away to Rhos Aelwyd.

They would only lose one more league game – at home to another title hopeful Caersws in February.

Andrew Pryde’s men then went on a title-clinching run of nine straight wins in which they saw off both Llanfair and Cefn Albion, scoring 27 times and conceding just the once.

With 25 wins in 29 matches and only three losses, Chirk AAA are very worthy champions.
