JD CYMRU NORTH – FRIDAY, APRIL 15

Llangefni Town 0
Holyhead Hotspur 5 (Alex Jones 20, Dylan Summers-Jones 42 & 73, Dean Garmey 87, Jay Gibbs 88)

Hotspur went nap on an afternoon where Llangefni Town’s relegation from the Tier 2 Cymru North was confirmed.

Despite a vast improvement in form and results in recent weeks, Cefni had left themselves with too much to do to escape the drop.

This is not the first setback Town have experienced in their proud history and in the past they have always come back stronger.

Tier 2 champions in 2006-07 and 2009-10, Llangefni have won the level three – former Welsh Alliance League – title a record five times and no doubt they will aim to quickly bounce back.

As for Hotspur, they were too good on the day for a home side missing a number of key regulars.

Holyhead started on the front foot, controlling the possession early on and went ahead from an Alex Jones header following a pinpoint set piece delivery from Liam Morris.

Then more pressure brought another flag-kick which was again sent over by Morris, but this time it was Dylan Summers-Jones who was on hand to direct the ball to the far corner to make it 2-0.

Holyhead grew in confidence and saw the half out in total control.

The second half started as the first ended with Holyhead dictating play, the midfield causing Llangefni lots of problems.

Chances fell to Summers Jones and Kenleigh Owen, but their efforts were somehow blocked on the line by the home defenders.

Llangefni did have an effort on goal via Cameron Jones, but his header was tipped over by Alex Lynch.

The third away goal was always inevitable and it came from Summers-Jones following a goalmouth scramble.

Melvin McGinness was then brought down in what seemed to be a last-man challenge but the referee decided on not dismissing the defender.

The resulting free kick from Jay Gibbs was well saved by the keeper only for Dean Garmey to react first and tap home to make it four.

There was still time for Gibbs to get on the scoresheet which he did via another well struck free kick to round off the scoring with his ninth goal of the season.

Winning manager Darren Garmey said: “As far as local derbies go this was as good as it gets, We just looked more mature on the day and controlled the game from start to finish.

“I just think we did everything we had to really well today to beat what was in front of us. Llangefni were obviously in a tough place and have been missing personnel but their young lads can be proud of the fight they have put today and in the games leading up to today.”
