NEWFA Women’s Cup match report – April 10

NFA 1 (Ashleigh Mills)
Bethel 7 (Katie Midwinter 2, Fflur Williams 3, Lois Evans, Erin Gibbard)

Destructive Bethel put seven past North Wales League high-flyers NFA in this NEWFA Cup clash at Pengwern Hall, Rhuddlan.

The visitors from Tier 2, a level above the hosts, took a 15th minute lead when Katie Midwinter dribbled past defenders in the box before hitting a shot that proved too powerful for keeper Yasmin Mills to prevent going in.

It was 2-0 in the 20th minute when Midwinter broke down the right and crossed low for Fflur Williams to score with an instinctive left-foot finish.

A brilliant break down the left by Mari Gibbard helped create the third in the 22nd minute. Gibbard slipped the ball to Williams who set up Lois Evans to fire home a well-worked goal.

A long ball from the back enabled Bethel to make it four before the interval, Fflur Williams controlling and finishing smartly.

NFA’s problems increased when they lost defender Megan Pursell through a knee injury prior to half time.

The hosts created some chances at the start of the second half but were unable to take one.

Bethel, who finished third in their debut Adran North campaign, made NFA pay when Fflur Williams completed her hat-trick.

Midwinter added her second when her shot following a counter-attack took a wicked bounce past keeper Mills.

The home team finally opened their account on 72 minutes when Sade Benjamin’s free kick was stopped, but Ashleigh Mills pounced to score.

Bethel had the final word when 16-year-old youngster Erin Gibbard made it 7-1 deep into added time.
