JD CYMRU NORTH – SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 5

Colwyn Bay 5 (Lindfield 10, K Evans 12, Kirby 24, 45 & 66)
Penrhyncoch 1 (T Evans 53)

Colwyn Bay made it seven points from a possible nine under new manager Steve Evans and moved up to fourth in the Cymru North following Saturday’s comfortable triumph over Penrhyncoch.

Playing with the wind in the first half, the Seagulls got off to a flier when Craig Lindfield netted his first goal for the club on 10 minutes.

Soon after the scorer turned assister, setting up Kieran Evans to make it 2-0. Evans also got off the mark for his new club.

James Kirby then scored twice before half-time, the second following excellent build-up play by the impressive Lewis Sirrell and Ryan Edwards.

Penrhyncoch pulled a goal back through Tomos Evans early in the second half and also hit the bar, but Kirby completed his hat-trick on 66 minutes, moments after hitting the post, to make it 5-1.

Kirby had another shot saved by visitors keeper Leigh Jenkins, who also denied Kieran Evans in a one-on-one, while substitute Sam Jones also went close.

The Bay’s excellent attendances continued with 447 turning out at the Four Crosses Construction Arena, Llanelian Road.

Latest signings Ryan Neild and Ryan Edwards made encouraging debuts against the Roosters.

Midfielder Edwards rejoined the Bay and goalkeeper Neild signed from Cefn Druids on the final day of the January transfer window.

Edwards was brought in by Alan Morgan in June 2018 but his stay at Llanelian Road was brief as an ankle injury restricted his game time.

He came through the ranks at Connah’s Quay Nomads before joining The New Saints in 2014 and was part of the team which set a world record breaking 27 consecutive league wins in 2016/17.

Edwards has also played in the Cymru Premier for Cefn Druids, Bala Town, Airbus UK Broughton, Llandudno, Aberystwyth Town and more recently Newtown.

Neild started his career with Chester FC and has also played for AFC Liverpool, Airbus UK, FC Nomads of Connah’s Quay and Runcorn Linnets.

He has also had spells at Witton Albion, Northwich Victoria and Widnes and he joined Druids earlier this season, making 10 appearances.
