Cefn Mawr Rangers optimistic for future after appointing new management team

Cefn Mawr Rangers have appointed a new management team.

The Wrexham area club, formed in 2016, have selected Chris Parry as first team manager, along with assistant Adam Gill and coach Sean Hughes.

The new regime took charge of their first game on Saturday away to Mynydd Isa Spartans and encountered a narrow 3-2 loss.

Rangers are currently seventh in the tier 4 North East Wales Football League Premier Division.

With the season now back underway and a NEWFL Premier Division Cup Final to look forward to, the management team have had this to say: β€œπ‘Ύπ’† π’π’π’π’Œ π’‡π’π’“π’˜π’‚π’“π’… 𝒕𝒐 𝒂 π’”π’•π’“π’π’π’ˆ π’‡π’Šπ’π’Šπ’”π’‰ 𝒕𝒐 π’•π’‰π’Šπ’” 𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏, π’˜π’Šπ’•π’‰ π’‰π’π’‘π’†π’‡π’–π’π’π’š π’”π’π’Žπ’† π’”π’Šπ’π’—π’†π’“π’˜π’‚π’“π’† 𝒕𝒐 π’”π’‰π’π’˜ 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅 π’˜π’π’“π’Œ, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 π’˜π’† π’˜π’Šπ’π’ π’π’π’π’Œ 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒖𝒔𝒉 𝒐𝒏 𝒏𝒆𝒙𝒕 𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 π’„π’‰π’‚π’π’π’†π’π’ˆπ’† 𝒇𝒐𝒓 π’Žπ’π’“π’† π’”π’Šπ’π’—π’†π’“π’˜π’‚π’“π’† π’‚π’ˆπ’‚π’Šπ’.”

Cefn Mawr Rangers first joined the former tier 5 North East Wales League in 2016-17 and celebrated a magnificent debut season, finishing third and clinching promotion to the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Division One, as well as lifting two cups.

They beat Offa Athletic 5-0 in the Presidents Cup Final on April 5, 2017, Jordan Powell 2, Lewis Jones 2 and Geraint Lewis sharing the goals.

A month later, they made it a double by scooping the Horace Wynne Cup, defeating gap Connah’s Quay Reserves 2-0 in the final at Mold.

They came third in their first season in WNL Division One and in the shortened 2019-20 campaign due to Covid did even better, ending up in second spot.

Cefn also made big waves in the national FAW Trophy, reaching round four (last 32) and knocking out higher ranked Greenfield 2-0 away en route, Aron Blackwell and Chris β€œScottish” Roberts with the goals.

Now in their fifth full season, Rangers are mid-table in the NEWFL Premier Division and have reached a cup final.

Chairman Bob Powell (that’s his chief title but he has filled just about every role within the club) believes the new management team can help the club kick on and challenge for more honours.

Bob said: β€œWe took our time over these appointments, after the entire first team management left without notice. I know Chris well and needed someone I could trust, and just as importantly I know from his football past, that he’s a winner. So I hope the players take on that mentality and push on.

β€œIn the meantime, our only remaining manager, Rob Pugh stepped to guide the team through some really challenging fixtures, culminating in the Newfa Cup game vs Buckley a couple of weeks ago. We thank Rob for that.”
