And when it comes to perfection….we must never forget the women

CPD Rhyl 1879 line-up

And when it comes to reporting on 100 percent records in football this season, we must never forget the senior women……

Just one North Wales senior ladies team has won every match they have played – CPD Y Rhyl 1879.

In the North Wales Women’s League, it is 3 matches and 3 wins for Darren Wardle’s side.

SEPTEMBER 5

Northop Hall 0 CPD Y Rhyl 1879 1

Candice Nellist, back at Rhyl this term after a highly successful 2019-20 season with Connah’s Quay Nomads, scored the only goal for the visitors in the 75th minute of a close game.

OCTOBER 10

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 8 Bangor 1876 1

Emily Bentley

Emily Bentley put away five goals in a ruthless display from Rhyl at Belle Vue.

Although 1876 had key players missing, mainly up front, they did also have a 100 percent record before running into the whites.

Rachael Nattrass, Laura Williams and Candice Nellist were also on target for the dominant hosts.

OCTOBER 24

Welshpool Town 1 CPD Y Rhyl 1879 3

No-one gets an easy ride at Welshpool, but Rhyl were able to clinch a third straight league win.

Laura Williams, Rachael Nattrass and Candice Nellist were the scorers at Maesydre.

The season so far……

As well as compiling a perfect league slate to date, Rhyl 1879 women also impressed in the Welsh Cup.

They were emphatic 5-1 winners over fellow town team NFA in round one, then lost narrowly 1-0 to tier 2 Genero Adran North side Pwllheli at the next stage.

It was a very even contest that day at Bellevue – Rhyl could easily have at least forced a penalty shoot-out.

Rhyl have built an impressive squad and manager Wardle could not have better assistants in the dugout than Joy Jamieson and Cassie Thomas.

Both ladies have a wealth of experience of women’s football, as well as many years’ involvement with Rhyl’s 1879 predecessor teams.

Securing the return of 18-year-old Emily Bentley to Bellevue after two years with Burnley is a real scoop for the club.

Emily’s pace and finishing ability is outstanding and should bring her many more goals this term.

It is great to see Laura Williams back too, a skilful, creative upfront player with a superb past record with Rhyl. And Candice Nellist, who has scored in every league game so far, is another magnificent capture.

Then in midfield there is the return of Rebecca Bannister and Rachael Nattrass, both of whom stood out for Connah’s Quay in 2019-20, but are now back with the club they surely call home.

Both girls were magnificent against Pwllheli in the Welsh Cup, so much skill and strength, as well as persistence.

There is plenty of other young talent emerging at the club too, which includes a flourishing girls-to-senior pathway.

While a few experienced heads have moved elsewhere this season, they have been replaced by quality and the overall look of the squad is secure.
