Report – Genero Adran Trophy Group 2 North

Connah’s Quay Nomads 4 (Scott 57 & 60; Hughes 62, Hamer 71)
Llandudno 1 (Tradewell 74)

Nomads and Llandudno went into Sunday’s game both already qualified for the next round of the Adran Trophy having each won their first two games in the group – but top spot was up for grabs.

The heavy rain throughout the game caused problems for both teams.  Tudno’s Jordanne Greenough picked up a yellow card after five minutes for a late tackle.

The first half was all Nomads possession with half-chances being the only talking points.

Kirstie Kural and Francesca Scott both had opportunities to score quickly after one another but their efforts ended up wide.

Llandudno were threatening on the counter attack but goalkeeper Charlie Bolland stopped everything.

The second half was different as now Nomads were creating clearer chances. Just five minutes in, Francesca Scott and Tamara Hamer had one-on-ones with the keeper, but both ended up missing the target.

After 57 minutes the Quay scored a goal which was coming. Francesca Scott was one-on-one from a wide angle but ran inside and fired past the keeper from a tight situation to give Nomads a deserved lead.

Just three minutes later, a set-piece for Nomads was put into a dangerous area. Llandudno didn’t deal with it and Francesca Scott made it 2-0 from a few yards out.

Following a corner, the hosts made it three goals in five minutes. Kural was unlucky not to score direct, keeper Sara Williams doing well to claw off the line, but defender Llinos Hughes was first on the scene to finish.

In the 71st minute, Hamer picked the ball up in a pocket of space and ran at the away back four. They dropped off into the box and from 25 yards Hamer fired home number four.

Credit to the visitors, who controlled the last 20 minutes. Poor marking from a set piece led to Stacey Tradewell netting with a free header.

Bolland’s late heroics ensured Llandudno’s total stayed at one.

Nomads top the group on nine points with Llandudno in second on six.

Winning manager Jordan Parry said: “We thoroughly deserved that result today, especially in horrendous conditions for both teams. Credit to Llandudno, a group that didn’t stop till the end.

“We had a statement to make and a point to prove, to not only the league today, but ourselves. We knew in-house why we didn’t compete against Llandudno last time and we have worked hard since that loss and all week to rectify it and put things right. Massive credit goes to the staff and – most importantly – the players, They were excellent across the 93 minutes.”

Llandudno manager Sarah Colville said: “Nomads simply wanted it more than us.”
