Cymru Premier – can Flint cause a shock at TNS this evening?

The only two teams with 100 percent records in the JD Cymru Premier League will come face-to-face tonight (Tuesday, August 31).

The New Saints, who are fully expected to be near the top of the table, welcome to Park Hall surprise packages Flint Town United, with all due respect perhaps a team few would have predicted to be flying so high.

Flint’s manager Neil Gibson is no stranger to stunning starts and being at the Cymru Premier peak.

Back in 2013-14, Gibson led Prestatyn Town to victory in their first three matches against Bala Town, TNS and Bangor City.

The Seasiders were top and on the crest of a wave, but the form soon dipped and by the end of the campaign they were glad to escape relegation.

Flint’s three victories to date have come against Cardiff Met University (5-1), Cefn Druids (4-0) and Aberystwyth Town (1-0).

To get something at Park Hall would be a real feat, especially considering the Silkmen lost 10-0 there last season, although well before Gibson arrived at the Essity.

Saturday’s win over Aberystwyth was a real boost with Alex Jones, one of Gibson’s ex-Prestatyn heroes, grabbing the decider four minutes into added time.

Tonight TNS will come up against one of their former stars Mike Wilde, who won seven league titles with Saints but joined Flint from Connah’s Quay Nomads this summer and is the CPL’s leading marksman with five goals in his three games to date.
