Hat-trick hero Louis Chapman made it 10 goals in four matches for a Caergybi side which advanced to the first round proper of the JD Welsh Cup in their first attempt at the competition.

Dale Moffat’s side are also one of just three northern tier 5 clubs left in the cup, alongside Llanelwy Athletic and Llannerchymedd, who await the outcome of their postponed tie against Bangor 1876.

Saturday saw Caergybi welcome fellow North Wales Coast West Division One side Llangoed to Millbank.

The game started nervously with both teams looking disjointed for the first few minutes.

Caergybi on the attack

Once the jitters settled Caergybi started to control the game and took charge with high intensity and pressure on their opponents on and off the ball.

They eventually got the breakthrough on 19 minutes. After some good play Gary-Jo Owen released Chapman, who tricked his way past defenders before shooting into the bottom corner.

Three minutes later it was the same link up, another through ball from Owen freeing Chapman, who beat the keeper to make it 2-0.

Caergybi continued to dominate, creating chances but not taking them.

However, on 43 minutes, a great ball over the defence from Marcus Bell found Tom Scott, who showed great composure to control and place in the far corner.

Just a minute later, Owen picked out Chapman again, the young striker completing his treble before the break.

Half-time: 4-0

With the tie all but won, Caerygbi appeared to take their foot off the pedal at the start of the second half.

Llangoed came back into the game, carving out openings and controlling the first 20 minutes.

Once Caergybi settled they got back on top and started to pin back the opposition once again.

Chances came and the hosts got their fifth of the day after some great play from Owen, beating three men and playing it across the six-yard box to Owain Griffiths, who was on the end this rime to notch his first goal for the club.

After the game, winning boss Moffat said: “Into the hat for the next round now. So proud of the lads.”
