Prestatyn Sports land major signing

Tom Kemp (third row back, almost directly in line with the cup, arm on shoulder) celebrates winning the Cymru Alliance title with Prestatyn Town in 2016-17

Tier 4 club Prestatyn Sports have landed a major coup by signing a player who has featured in Europe and the Welsh Premier, as well as winning the Cymru Alliance League title.

Tom Kemp, 26, has joined North Wales Coast East Premier Division Sports after spending the last three seasons with Cymru Premier club Flint Town United.

A very versatile defender who can play in either the full-back role or in the centre of defence if required, Kemp was with Everton as a youngster before signing for Prestatyn Town in 2012.

He went on to make the bench for both of Town’s 2013-14 Europa League first qualifying round games against Latvia’s Liepajas Metalurgs, which the Welsh Premier side won on penalties.

Kemp then twice came on as a substitute for Rhys Owen in the second qualifying round tie against HNK Rijeka of Croatia, which Town lost 8-0 on aggregate.

In 2016-17, Kemp was part of the Prestatyn Town squad which lifted the Cymru Alliance championship.

He represented the Seasiders in the Welsh Premier before switching to Flint Town United in 2018-19.

Kemp celebrated promotion to the Welsh Premier with the Cae-y-Castell club the following campaign.

He made 74 first team appearances in all for Flint before deciding to join Sports.

Prestatyn Sports joint-managers John Hargreaves and Sion Williams said: “A player of Tom’s ability and experience and still at a young age of 26 is a massive boost for us just a few weeks before we engage in competitive football.

“We hope to get him settled in as soon as possible with a debut in our friendly match this weekend vs Rhuddlan Town.

“After speaking with Tom last night the lad just wants to enjoy his football again without the pressure and commitment that Welsh Premier football brings. And at the Sports we will make sure that’s the case.

Welcome Tom from all connected with the club.”
